The K.I.W.I. club is back again at SHS, and they have new ways for students to get together with a group and have fun. The K.I.W.I. club is run by Mrs. McKillip and Mr. Blanchard. The idea of K.I.W.I. is to spread the concept that every person has something to give, no matter what limitations he or she may be facing, and that we all have a gift, a purpose, and a place in this world. Their vision is to enhance each member’s character by developing mutual friendships through recreation, team building, volunteering, and extracurricular activities. What K.I.W.I. stands for is giving back to the community through volunteering, having fun, appreciating and recognizing everyone’s individual gifts, and building true friendships between people with and without disabilities. K.I.W.I. members volunteer monthly, attend school events together, plan and participate in exciting social activities/parties, run and attend monthly meetings, fundraise, go on field trips, and are exploring a possible partnership with Best Buddies at Shorewood High School. The K.I.W.I. club is made up of different groups -- the Mentors, the Volunteer Team, the Party Team, the Fundraising Team, the Policy Team, and the Elected Core Team. The Mentors are students that have one on one friendships with a student that is disabled. The Volunteer Team goes out and helps at different events or charities. The Party Team plans and organizes parties. The Fundraising Team comes up with and does different fundraisers to support different groups. The Policy Team and the Elected Core Team members help run the meetingss and the groups of K.I.W.I. The K.I.W.I. club is one that I think will be a huge influence on all schools all over the world.
